After the gambler has selected which cards he or she would like to keep, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards will be dealt if desired. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the pay out schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the pay out schedule can change from game to game, so that skillful players are agile enough to pick the most profitable game each and every instance.

As soon as the first round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that they may have won. Additionally, a few versions of the game give the gambler an opportunity to double their winnings, in which instance another round is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
