Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be bet on in casinos across the world, or alternatively at home on your PC, through a net account. In this respect it is very similar as a classic game of poker, apart from the interaction with other players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and presses the play button. A hand of five cards will then be electronically ‘handed out’ on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and bettors will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the bettor would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the bettor has chosen which cards he would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be dealt. The game is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Normally, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced players are agile enough to select the most profitable machine every instance.

After the initial round has completed, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that they may have won. Further, several styles of the game give the bettor an opportunity to double their profits, in which instance a further hand is played. There are also differences between specific machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying elements to enhance playability.
